ULVERSTONE

Barque – (LARN) – Captain John George Sawyer. Cargo COAL (& COKE). Half a mile off Portland Bill. Collided with a vessel causing fatal damage. Other vessel failed to help. Crew managed to get away and met up with the Pilot vessel TURK who took them on board. The other vessel was identified as the ABRAHAM of Sabioncello, Shields to New York. A mate of this vessel testified that their steering gear was damaged causing the collision, however a writ was served on the Austrian vessel for £8000. Check DCE: 25/02/1873.
