Brigantine – Captain J. Hesketh. Cargo COAL. (LARN) – 15 miles SE Portland Bill. Southern Times: 12/10/1878 p5; ‘Sank following a collision off Portland with the Greek barque ANTHIPPE, Captain Collisasleas, Dunkirk to Newport in ballast, which later put into Cowes with damage to her stern and jib-boom. The BRITISH SEAMAN sank immediately and nothing but her boat was saved’.

A COLLISION: A SCHOONER SUNK.

Yesterday the schooner, ‘British Seaman,’ of Preston, was run down and sunk off Portland by a Greek barque, ‘Antipi’. The crew were saved.
